Can Market Economies ever master the task of redistribution of wealth...

Socialism like many religions was invented to redistribute wealth....but in practice it created corrupt centrally planned monolithic states which choked on their own bureaucracies and collapsed under their own weight...

Even so partial socialism is practiced in all western free market states in the form of welfare states where large expensive government machinery attempts to take from the rich and give to the poor and not so poor...These countries are more efficient the the communist dinosaurs but the heavy costs of administration makes them vulnerable in a rapidly globally integrating market...

There must be some way to make markets do the redistribution of wealth within the framework of free self correcting tightly accountable market mechanisms...after all what does free competition mean if incumbents can erect entry barriers through patents, copyrights, long term supply contracts, long term distribution channel exclusivity...etc.

If really free competition is to prevail, unfair entry barriers must be relentlessly hunted down and obliterated....let the fittest survive, but let the fattest and heaviest run for their living...

Otherwise socials will always have a reason to build government infrastructure to redistribute wealth....and the cycle of corruption, lethargy, entitlements will continue for ever...
